Nowadays a traditional Scout group is made up of three age based sections, namely a Beaver Colony (for the 6 to 8(½) year olds), a Cub Pack (for the 8 to 10 year olds) and a Scout Troop (for the 10 to 14 year olds). The 14 year olds then move on from the Groups to District based Explorer Scout Units some of which may have partnership links with the Scout Groups.

Why is 2nd Northallerton Friarage Scoutlink different?

The aim of the group is to enable children who may not adapt into a regular Scout group enjoy what Scouting has to offer. At Scoutlink we aim to run Scouting activities suitable for all children particularly those with any special needs. We do not have separate Beaver and Cub Sections so we wear a red shirt and use a mixture themes from the Beaver and Cub sections.
Each programme is designed primarily for participation and involvement, it is also much more about young people having a go rather than passing tests or achieving a particular standard. It can therefore be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for any young person whatever their ability.

The District has two Explorer Scout Units, namely Alverton based in Bedale and BARNES.
Scoutlink has a partnership agreement with the BARNES Explorer Scout Unit which meets after Scoutlink on the first Monday of each month and also meets on the third Monday of each month at East Cowton.

The Christmas party way back in December 2002 seems a long and distant memory but it is where the idea for Scoutlink was born!
Our regular meetings have seen us grow in numbers from eight at our first meeting to eighteen at our last. With activities ranging from Lion Face Masks to Rounders in the Park.
We had five meetings about discovery and creativity with many of our members gaining their first activity badge the Creative Badge series. Activities included making hand printing leaves, flower pots and tree bark rubbing.

A number of Young Leaders from the BARNES Explorer Unit help with running activities at Scoutlink.
